About Verified
- Join team human. We’re building the Verified Network – instant proof of human online. Every person should be able to prove who they are, instantly, on any platform. This is critical infrastructure for the 21st century. AI makes it necessary.
- We’re scaling fast. 8x revenue growth in the last 18 months with zero salespeople. Cash-flow positive, and reinvesting that cash into growth.
- A lean, world-class team. Founded by brothers Aidan and Liam McCarty (Stanford, Forbes 30 Under 30) with top tier investors (Tim Draper, Stanford Farmers) and advisors.
The role
You’ll be a generalist engineer on our core team: mostly backend, full stack when the work calls for it. You’ll ship products alongside our senior engineers, and you’ll analyze production data with scientific rigor.
What you’ll do:
- Build product. Ship backend features, APIs, and integrations with the rest of the engineering team, plus some frontend work when it’s needed.
- Relentlessly improve our data. Run analyses and data studies on production data (data provider coverage and accuracy, signup conversion, fraud signals) and turn the findings into product changes.
- Debug in production. When a customer reports something that needs investigation in production logs or data, you dig in, find the root cause, and ship the fix.
- Catch problems before customers do. Watch customer success and data provider metrics closely, build the monitors that flag anomalies, and surface issues before they become tickets.
- Lend a hand on infrastructure. Our infrastructure is stable and devops is a small part of the job, but you’ll be comfortable stepping in when something needs a look.
- Engineer world class systems. We’re obsessed with building at the cutting edge and are constantly reimagining how technical teams can operate.
Requirements
- Strong software engineer. You’ve shipped and maintained production code, mostly on the backend. Full stack experience is a plus.
- Quantitative background. A degree or real depth in statistics, data science, or a hard science (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.). You can conduct a rigorous analysis, tell signal from noise, and explain what the data does and doesn’t show.
- A relentless debugger. You find the root cause fast, can ship a fix, and communicate effortlessly with our team and our customers.
- A great technical writer. Docs, analyses, bug specs, and incident write-ups that are clear and precise.
- Proactive by default. You’d rather build a monitor that catches a problem than wait for the ticket.
- Startup background. You’ve been a go-to engineer at an early-stage company.
- Speed. Speed is our biggest advantage. When something breaks, you’re on it in minutes, and the customer hears from you until it’s fixed.
- High integrity. We sell trust. You’ll have access to sensitive production data and handle it with care. You tell customers exactly what happened and when it’ll be fixed, never more and never less.
- AI-pilled. You can explain exactly where you use AI, where you don’t, and why. You use it to build, debug, and analyze data faster, and you always check its work.
- Extreme ownership. You own every issue until it’s resolved and the root cause is gone. When something goes wrong, you take full accountability and make sure it never happens again.
- Based in the US. This role requires production access, which we limit to team members living and working in the US.
Skills
Need to have:
- Backend development in production: APIs, services, and relational databases
- SQL: comfortable writing complex queries against large production datasets
- Python or R for analysis, and the statistics to back it up (sampling, hypothesis testing, experiment design)
- Debugging skills: find the cause of a production issue using logs and metrics (New Relic, CloudWatch) and report it clearly
- Good written communication and comfort working async with a remote team
Nice to have:
- Node.js ecosystem
- Frontend experience
- Familiarity with our infrastructure: Kubernetes (kubectl), Helm, AWS (EKS, RDS, ElastiCache, CloudWatch, ECR), Terraform/Terragrunt, and a GitOps workflow with ArgoCD and CircleCI
- Experience with identity data, entity resolution, or fraud detection
- Previous experience with SOC 2 and/or HIPAA compliance
Who you are
You’re an engineer with a scientist’s instincts. You ship production code, and you get a kick out of finding the pattern in messy data. You’d rather measure than guess, you’d rather write a clear doc than answer the same question twice, and when something breaks, you’re the one people call.
This isn’t for you if you want:
- To write code alone and never talk to customers.
- A pure data science or research role with no production engineering.
- Someone else to handle the fires.
- A 9-to-5. We work hard (at least 50 hours a week) toward a big vision, and we take real time to recharge.
Comp and benefits
- $200K to $220K base
- Meaningful early-stage equity. We’ll walk you through the full model on our first call.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with an immediate 3% employer match
- 3 weeks PTO, plus 3 sick days
- Semi-annual team trips, domestic and international
- Remote (but in the US)
How we hire
Four conversations over about two weeks: a call with Liam, a short technical exercise (a real-world debugging and data problem) that we dig into together, a conversation with the engineers, and a final session with both founders. You’ll hear back within 3 business days at every step.
To apply
No cover letter. Send your LinkedIn or resume and answer one question: What’s the most exceptional thing you’ve ever done, at work or outside it?
